What is an EAN-13 barcode used for?
EAN-13 is the 13-digit retail barcode used on products sold outside North America, UPC-A’s counterpart: structurally near-identical, one digit longer. Like UPC-A, an EAN-13 number is only a valid product identifier once registered to your business through GS1; generating the symbol here encodes whatever number you enter without registering it anywhere.
How small can an EAN-13 be printed before it stops scanning?
Down to 50% magnification (X = 0.165 mm) in our test. That’s identical to UPC-A, which makes sense given both formats share the same underlying structure. Code 128 and Code 39 became unreliable one step earlier at the same test conditions.
