What is an SSCC?
SSCC stands for Serial Shipping Container Code: an 18-digit number that uniquely identifies one pallet or case as it moves from sender to receiver. It’s printed as a GS1-128 barcode, which is a Code 128 symbol carrying a special control character and an application identifier that tells scanning software what the following digits mean.
Is SSCC the same as our Code 128 generator?
No. A true GS1-128 barcode needs a specific control character our Code 128 generator doesn’t produce. The Code 128 generator on this site encodes plain text correctly, but GS1-128 labels like SSCC require an additional signal (called FNC1) at the start of the symbol so that scanning software can parse the application identifiers correctly. Without it, a barcode that looks right can still fail to parse as a valid SSCC in a logistics system, which is exactly the kind of silent failure we don’t want to ship.
Can you generate an SSCC here?
Not yet. We’d rather say that plainly than generate something that scans as a barcode but doesn’t parse correctly as the GS1-128 label a logistics system expects.
