Is it safe to scan a QR code with this tool?
Yes, and it’s built to keep you in control of what happens next. Decoding happens entirely in your browser using your device’s camera or a file you choose; nothing is sent to a server. When a code decodes, the result shows as plain text first, and a link only appears as a separate button you have to click yourself. Nothing opens automatically, so you can read where a code actually points before you go there.
Why does scanning need camera access?
The browser’s own camera permission, the same one any video-calling site uses, not something specific to this tool. Frames from the camera are decoded in memory as you scan; none are saved, recorded, or leave your device. If you’d rather not grant camera access, uploading a photo works the same way without it.
What if the camera doesn’t work or you’d rather not use it?
Switch to Upload image and choose a photo of the code instead, a screenshot, a picture you already took, or a saved image. It decodes the same way, just from a file instead of a live feed.
