ITF-14 barcode

ITF-14 is the 14-digit barcode used on cartons and pallets, not individual products, and it’s not one of the formats we generate yet.

What is an ITF-14 barcode?

ITF-14 is a 14-digit numeric barcode that identifies a shipping unit, a case or carton, rather than the individual product inside it. It’s built on Interleaved 2 of 5, a different underlying symbology from the Code 128 used for general logistics labels, and is typically printed directly onto corrugated cardboard rather than on a small label.

Do you need an ITF-14 or a UPC-A?

UPC-A or EAN-13 identifies the individual product; ITF-14 identifies the case it ships in. If you’re labelling single units for retail sale, you want UPC-A or EAN-13. ITF-14 only applies once those units are packed into a carton for shipping, and like the retail formats, requires a GS1-issued number to be valid.

Can you generate an ITF-14 here?

Not yet. This site currently generates EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128 and Code 39, the four formats we’ve built and verified encoders for. ITF-14 uses different symbol logic that we haven’t implemented, and we’d rather say so plainly than ship a generator we haven’t tested.
